Flowerpot Greetings
By Rachel Paxton

This is a fun alternative to a homemade card, a place-card for a special breakfast or an "I love you" gift!

You will need:
Small clay pot
florist foam
moss, Spanish or regular
twig or cinnamon stick
silk daisies, mini straw hat or a foam ball
dried flowers (optional-see directions)
hot glue
white cardboard or heavy paper
toothpick
markers

Cut a piece of florist foam to fit into your small clay pot. (This is the green foam which can be found at floral departments or craft stores) Put a ring of glue into the bottom of the pot and press down the piece of foam. For your stem you can use a fairly thick twig or a long cinnamon stick. The length can vary-6-10 inches is good. Place glue on the end and quickly insert your stem into the middle of the foam. Cover the top surface of the foam around the stem with glue and press on the moss. You can use Spanish moss or even moss from your yard or the woods. It will dry.

At this point you can do several things. At the top of your stem you can glue two artificial daisies back to back for a decoration. You can also push on a Styrofoam ball on the end of your stem after placing a dab of glue at the top. Then brush the ball with glue and cover it with moss. Now decorate with small dried flowers, seeds, tiny fabric roses or other flowers. You can also glue a mini straw hat on top of your stem at an angle, and place flowers around the rim.

After you decide on this step, you will need to cut a rectangle piece of your cardboard and decorate it with markers. Print a message for your Mom or Grandma such as I love you (always a good one!) or another special saying she would enjoy. Glue the end of a toothpick and stick it through the moss, into the foam base. Now glue on your message so it's facing the front. You are done with your charming homemade gift!
