Children's Book Review

Word Wizard
By Cathryn Falwell
Order information Here

Word Wizard is more than a book about words and letters. It's a journey into a child's imagination. Anna realizes she can switch letters around in a single word and create another one. Suddenly the words and letters become magic and she is able to make a lost child, Zack, smile again. They fight off beasts, travel, sing and most importantly, find their way home again. The illustrations are colorful and full of expression.

As if the book wasn't magical enough, the last pages explain how the illustrations in the story were actually cut paper collages. The author illustrates her ideas for making your own sets of letters. Even before we were finished my children were looking around for words to scramble. My son asked me after we finished reading "Do you think we could make our own collage book?". What more can we ask of a book than to inspire our children to create?
