TODAY'S QUOTE

We are told to let our light shine, and if
it does, we won't need to tell anybody it
does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to
call attention to their shining--they just
shine. ~Dwight Lyman Moody

TODAY'S OFL TIPS

HODGE PODGE DAY
We have a varied group of tips today!
TROWEL TIP: Make at least four vertical cuts, one on
each side of the plant, spacing for the desired root ball
width you want to finish with. If the plant is larger you
may need something more like an octagon. After making
these straight-down slits in the ground, you can then
leverage the plant out with your spade. This vertical-cutting
leaves a much larger dirt and root mass, with little shock
to the plant. If transplanting larger plants, before making
the cuts, mark the plant with an "S" on the south facing
trunk or large branch (you can also put a piece of tape
on that side, as long as it will stay put)--transplant with the
"S" facing south (large shrubs and trees create a denser
bark on the south side to protect against sunburn).

BLOW FLOWERS
As a child we called the trumpet vine," Blow flowers." My
grandmother would fix us a bowl of dish soap and water
and we would blow bubbles with the flowers. They have
a sweet taste to them . This is a very fond memory as a
child, one that I also shared with my own daughter. We
grew up on a farm in Ohio and the vines grew wild. ~Kim
ORGANIZING TIP FOR DATES
I have a master list of Dates to Remember to post to my
computer calendar for birthdays, anniversaries and other
special occasions, with columns for Month, Day, Year,
name of person, occasion, and what age they will be for
that year.(I update it annually.) I carry this master list with
me when shopping so I can buy cards ahead of time. I
have a three ring binder with plastic top-loading pocket
folders for each month of the year to file the cards. To
save money I buy a lot of cards at the dollar store but I
also make some special ones on my computer. ~Burnice
