My dad passed away on December 30, 2001. My mom and I
were with him when he died, and that means more
to me thatn anything I could have said or done.
He was always there for me through my most
difficult times (and bad decisions) and loved me
anyway. When he was going through his most
difficult time I was there for him. He asked me to
look out for my mom, and I was able to be with
her when he passed, which made it something that
only the three of us share.
My dad's favorite verse is Matthew 7:12:
"...whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them...".
The Golden
rule is how he lived his life, and how he will always be remembered.
On Christmas day he called me into his bedroom where he had been laying,
lifted his head, looked me right in the eyes, and said, "I'm going to
die." Now I realize there is no better gift that he could have given me
this Christmas. In his own way, he let me know that he was content and
he was going to be okay. He wanted me to know so that I could begin to
grieve. We both cried together that day.
The funeral is over, that flowers are beginning to fade, but I still
hear his voice and am so thankful that God is letting me have a moment
in time to reunite with him in my heart. I miss you dad, I love you.
